Actors Tom Hiddleston (“Thor”) and Mark Hamill (“Star Wars”) will star in an upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Life Of Chuck.” It will be directed and written by Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep,” “The Haunting Of Hill House”). This project is expected to be a hot package at the upcoming Cannes film market.
“The Life Of Chuck” will be based on a short story from King’s 2020 anthology “If It Bleeds.” It follows three separate storylines that all come together to tell the biography of Charles Krantz, in reverse. The story begins with his death from a brain tumor at the age of 39. Then works its way back to the ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.
Flanagan adapted the script before the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) went on strike. The project has already been in the works for several months with Hamill set to play the role of Albie. And Golden Globe winner, Hiddleston, playing the titular character.
The production team says tonally “The Life Of Chuck” will draw from “Stand By Me,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” and “The Green Mile.” So it sounds like we shouldn’t expect your standard Stephen King-fare.
In addition to writing and directing Flanagan will also be producing for Intrepid Pictures along with Trevor Macy. FilmNation will handle international sales with WME Independent handling domestic.
