The long-awaited film adaptation of popular horror game “Five Nights at Freddy’s” finally has a release date. The movie will be debuting in theaters the same day it hits NBC’s Peacock streaming service. Taking place in the fictional family pizzeria, “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza,” players take on the role of a security guard who must defend themselves from the restaurant’s homicidal animatronic characters that become mobile at night.

Emma Tammi (“The Wind”) directs “Five Nights at Freddy’s” from a script she co-wrote with Seth Cuddeback and Scott Cawthon. The film follows a security guard who experiences a series of terrors at the pizza place he works nights at. The film stars Josh Hutcherson (“Ultraman”), Elizabeth Lail (“You”), Piper Rubio (“Unstable”), Kat Conner Sterling (“A Week Away”), Mary Stuart Masterson (“Isle of Hope”), and Matthew Lillard (“Scooby-Doo”). Animatronic designs and technology are being handled by the legendary Jim Henson Creature Shop!
Jason Blum of Blumhouse will produce with Cawthon. Executive producers include Bea Sequeira, Russell Binder, and Christopher H. Warner.
This will be the third time a film made by Univeral and Blumhouse will have a hybrid premier on streaming and in theaters. The previous releases were 2021’s “Halloween Kills” and 2022’s “Halloween Ends.” With all three having October releases and being based on well-established IPs, we may be seeing a bit of a tradition forming here. And we are here for it!
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” will hit theaters and Peacock on October 27th, 2023. We will keep you posted on updates about the project as they develop.
