Things That Shouldn’t Exist But Do- Ranch Dressing Ice Cream

We don’t shy away from strange foods ’round here. Hell, we’ve even eaten some of them, for SCIENCE. Remember the pizza flavored ice cream that came out last year? We remember. (We even ate it.) From the same ice cream manufacturer, Van Leeuwen, we’re getting another unique flavor. This time, the flavor might be a bit much for us. Even if oddly enough, it probably would work well with pizza ice cream.

Introducing Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing ice cream.

Coming exclusively to Walmart, this is the only ice cream we know of crossing over with the Hidden Valley salad dressing line. Yes, that’s right, ranch dressing flavored ice cream. If that thought is slightly nauseating, don’t worry, you’re not alone. The idea of just eating frozen ranch dressing is a bit of an unsettling one. According to the official press release, the flavor focuses on the buttermilk and “flavorful herbs,” with a touch of sweetness.

The buttermilk might actually be alright, considering that ice cream is, by nature, cream. The herbs on the other hand might be a bit much. When we tried the pizza flavored ice cream though, the come away we had from it was that the “pizza” elements of tomato and cheese were sweetened enough to where they weren’t very “pizza” like. Sure, there were some mild elements there, but in general the dessert just had more of a creamy fruit flavor. Would that be the same with ranch dressing though?

To give the Van Leeuwen brand credit, they know what they’re doing when it comes to crafting flavors. They have some more appetizing ones on the way including, Sweet Maple Cornbread, Carrot Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, and Honey Graham Cracker. All of those sound amazing, or at the very least a lot more palatable than ranch dressing flavored. We’ll have so see how it turns out once it hits shelves.

Like some of its other odd flavors, there’s a limited time availability factor to it going from March 20th to May 28th. So if you’re an ardent fan of ice cream and ranch dressing, your dream has finally come true. That, or maybe this ranch should’ve just stayed hidden in the valley.
