Filmmaker Elizabeth Banks is starring in and executive producing “Bedrock,” a “The Flintstones” spin-off. She’ll be voicing adult Pebbles. Those who remember watching the classic cartoon will remember Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm were both just babies when the show took place. Pebbles is the daughter of Fred and Wilma, and Bamm Bamm is the son of neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble. It was implied throughout the franchise history they would grow up and marry each other, weirdly enough.

Stephen Root will voice Fred, Amy Sedaris will voice Wilma, Nicole Byer will voice Betty, Joe Lo Truglio will voice Barney, and Manny Jacinto will voice Bamm-Bamm.

Warner Bros. and Fox Animation are producing. “The Flintstones” was originally produced by Hanna-Barbera as were a handful of some other great cartoons. Think “The Smurfs” and “The Jetsons.”

The show places The Flinstones about twenty years after the end of the original run. It will be a primetime animated adult comedy series, which continues that story. We’re not sure if it will have any throwbacks to the “Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show” that aired in the 70s, but we’ll see.

A logline for the show reads:

“Bedrock catches up with the Flintstone family two decades later, with Fred on the brink of retirement and 20-something Pebbles embarking on her own career. As the Stone Age gives way to a shiny and enlightened new Bronze Age, the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club.”

No release date has been announced. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
