Police partnerships have always been good fodder for television and film. You’ve got Riggs and Murtagh from “Lethal Weapon,” Cagney & Lacey from their eponymous program, even Turner & Hooch…well maybe not that one- Tango & Cash, there ya go! Well among the more popular pairings was found in the 1970’s television series, “Starsky & Hutch.” While the show was very much a relic of its time it has lived on in popular culture enough to produce a 2004 film based on it and has been broadcast in re-runs for decades. The duo is potentially coming back, but as a pair of crime-busting women.

While not much has been announced regarding the project so far, we do know Fox is expecting two different scripts to potentially turn into a series. The duo in charge of the writing/showrunning is Sam Sklaver and Elizabeth Peterson. Sklaver is most recently known for his work as the showrunner for “Prodigal Son” whereas Peterson also worked on the program in addition to “The Resident.” Both Fox shows. As of right now there are no casting decisions that have been made or if other characters from the original show will be revived in a new form.
We know of two confirmed characters- Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson. The two officers are close friends who maintain that friendship and “awesomeness” while fighting crime in Desert City. An overarching plot is being written into the show as well where the two officers aim to solve the mystery involving their respective fathers. Both men were falsely put away 15 years, leaving the daughters to try to figure out who was behind it.

If picked up for series, this wouldn’t be the first gender swapped revival we’ve reported on recently. “Matlock“ is be returning to CBS, with Kathy Bates in the role of the titular character. That’s the kind of casting that can get your project noticed, fast. There’s plenty of talented actresses out there who could lend the right gravitas and sense of fun to a “Starsky & Hutch” reboot. We look forward to seeing if the project gets picked up and if so, who will be behind the wheel of that Gran Torino.
