We all know what an incredible nerd Steven Colbert is. You ever need someone to outline the whole of middle-earth’s history, he’s your man. Which is why Colbert’s production company Spartina is teaming up with Skybound and Vincent Newman Entertainment. The host of “The Late Show” will adapt Roger Zelazny‘s massively popular “Chronicles of Amber” books into a TV series.
Not only is Colbert a massive fan of the series, but George R.R. Martin shares his enthusiasm. As a close friend of Zelazny, the “Game of Thrones” author has been hoping for this. “I am a fantasy fan, and I want more fantasy on television,” Martin said. “Most of all, I want Roger Zelazny’s ‘Nine Princes in Amber’…And hey, if epic fantasy continues to do well, maybe we will finally get that. A boy can dream.”
Colbert seems thrilled to be starting this project. “George R.R. Martin and I have similar dreams,” he said. “I’ve carried the story of Corwin in my head for over 40 years, and I’m thrilled to partner with Skybound and Vincent Newman to bring these worlds to life.”
For another huge fan of the book series, David Alpert, CEO of Skybound Entertainment, working with Colbert is a dream come true. “Producing it alongside someone like Stephen Colbert, who is a true-blue super fan, is a thrill for me…We can’t wait to share this amazing story both with the legion of current fans like ourselves and a new generation of fans,” Alpert said.
Lots of book can suffer from adaptations, but the current string seems to be doing quite well. With someone like Colbert keeping an eye on things, we like to think this’ll be a phenomenal series. We’ll let you know what we hear about casting and production news.
