James Gunn Teases ‘Baby’ Adam Warlock in “GoTG Vol. 3”

Ever since “Thor: The Dark World,” fans have been ecstatic for Adam Warlock to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The cosmic entity will do just that in James Gunn’s upcoming “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.” Sovereign leader Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) created Warlock to bring down the Guardians after they double-crossed her in “GotG Vol. 2.”

This may just sound like your typical “bad guy chases the good guys” scenario. But according to writer/director Gunn, it’s more complicated than that. “He’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well,” Gunn said. “He’s basically a baby.”

And a HUGE baby he is, since Adam Warlock actor Will Poulter (“Midsommar”) stands at 6 feet 3 inches tall, and is solidly built. Which is apparently just what the director wants in his on-screen infants. A new look at the character was revealed by Empire Magazine.

“People online were saying, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock,’” Gunn explained. “I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future.” And a flare for the dramatic and comedic does make Warlock fit right on in with the rest of The Guardians. At least in terms of tone. “He could become this really important character,” Gunn teased.

[Editor’s note: We’re still mad Poulter bowed out of playing Elrond in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” because he looks PERFECT to play the younger version of Hugo Weaving.]

“Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” will hit theaters on May 5th, 2023. Check out the trailer below:
