Newlyweds Madi Danger and Jay Aspen are high school sweethearts, who have been together for 9 years. When they decided to get hitched, they set out to have the “most heavy metal wedding ever.” Ditching tradition to make the ceremony uniquely them, they strived for something “less stressful and more personal.”
On December 16th 2022, the couple got married in a very cool gothic revival church with amazing stonework and stained glass. “It’s gorgeous,” Danger said. “We waited three months for the reverend to get back in the country to get married there.” The bride walked down the aisle to the Ozzy Osbourne classic “Mr. Crowley.”
The vows themselves were pretty traditional, until Reverend Ruth Marsh ended with the line “individual notes becoming one beautiful chord.” The couple then exchanged guitars instead of rings. Part of this choice was because they struggled to find rings they liked. The other part is it was a bit of a joke gone too far.
“One day we were talking about what guitars we wanted and we were looking on Gibson’s website at the Explorers,” Danger explained. “I joked about us exchanging those at our wedding then we decided to do that instead.” And having a partner you can laugh with is certainly something we all strive for. Gibson Explorers cost about $2,500 each.
“It was really fun because the guitars had been hidden for so long — like when the groom can’t see the bride,” Danger laughed. “Only a few people knew about it so some people were shocked and then they were excited about it.” After the exchanging of vows and instruments, the two walked out to The Cure’s “Lovesong.” They drove off in Danger’s own retro black hearse complete with “6FTUNDER” vanity plates.
While the newlyweds didn’t plan on having a cake, Danger’s grandmother found a black one with red roses. So “I cut it with a fancy ornate dagger because I didn’t want to cut it with a knife,” she explained.
A video of the nuptials went viral. Apparently “A lot of people thought the wedding was actually filmed in the ’80s,” Danger said. “I zoomed in a lot on the video so the quality will have made them think it was shot back then too.” Between her teased hair and the graininess of the video we can see why.
Regardless of when it was filmed, the couple seems elated to be getting married. We wish Madi Danger and Jay Aspen the best of luck on this chapter of their relationship.
