Kevin Smith May Finally be Making “Moose Jaws”

Filmmaker Kevin Smith revealed his much-discussed film “Moose Jaws” may finally be getting made. Thanks to his successful collaborations with Lionsgate on “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” and “Clerks III,” the company is hungry for more.

Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith “Jay & Silent Bob Reboot

“‘We sold so many copies of ‘Jay & Silent Bob Reboot‘ on DVD and Blu-ray that if you have any more of this Jay and Silent Bob bullshit and you can make it for under eight million dollars, we’ll totally do it,” Smith told the GalaxyCon audience. “And I was like, ‘I am filled with nothing but Jay and Silent Bob bullshit!’.”

The plot for the film is also EXACTLY what is sounds like. “They were like, ‘Well, like what?’ And I said, ‘I’ve got this movie Clerks III that they’re in,’ they’re like, ‘Okay, what else?’ ‘I got this movie called Moose Jaws,’ and they were like, ‘What’s Moose Jaws?’ And I was like, ‘Moose Jaws is like Jaws but with a Moose instead of a shark.’ And they said, ‘What’s the budget on that?’ I was like, ‘About three million bucks,’ they’re like, ‘We’ll make four of them.’ So it looks like Moose Jaws is finally gonna happen.”

“Moose Jaws” will be the third, and possibly final film in his planned True North trilogy. In which all of the films primarily take place in America’s hat, Canada. The first installment is 2014’s “Tusk,” about podcaster Wallace Bryton (Justin Long) who is turned into a human walrus by Howard Howe (Michael Parks). The second is 2016’s “Yoga Hosers” about Canadian store clerks Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith). After helping crack the case in “Tusk,” the pair must now fight off an army of Bratzis-Bratwurst Nazis.

But there is possibly another film planned for the series, since Smith has discussed wanting to make a second “Tusk” film. In which Long would escape his walrus form and become the villain. But the filmmaker also has a history of making jokes about films he wants to make that never happen. Though, to be fair, the first “Tusk” seemed like one of those films.

In the same Q&A, he also explained “Moose Jaws” is just one of five films he is seriously developing. The other tiles include another Jay and Silent Bob movie, a “Red State” sequel, and “Twilight of the Mallrats,” which would be a “Mallrats” sequel. As well as “The 4:30 Movie,” which is a new original script that unlike the aforementioned titles doesn’t seem like a continuation of any of his other films.
