Lady Gaga Does the Bloody Wednesday TikTok Trend

Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday” has had its fair share of viral moments already. But none of them have been as big as the school dance scene where our favorite teen shows off her moves to The Cramp’s song “Goo Goo Muck.” After the episode aired the clip quickly went viral and for many, it became the embodiment of what the show has to offer.

    Jenna Ortega, “Wednesday” NETFLIX

Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday Adams, choreographed the dance herself taking inspiration from several artists, as well as watching videos of goths dancing in clubs in the 1980s. Ortega even filmed the scene while sick with COVID-19 . That amount of perseverance really shined through and solidified her as the character for many fans.

Soon after the episode aired fans took to TikTok to mimic Wednesday’s moves. But instead of using the original soundtrack, they replaced the song with Lady Gaga’s 2013 song “Bloody Mary.” Cleverly dubbing the new dance trend “Bloody Wednesday.” Wednesday Adams’ official twitter account expressed support for this trend saying “I see you doing my dance moves to @LadyGaga’s Bloody Mary. I understand she is followed by little monsters. I approve.”

Gaga retweeted this saying “Slay Wednesday! 💋 You’re welcome at Haus of Gaga anytime (and bring Thing with you, we love paws around here 😉).” The singer has doubled down on that support and joined the trend. She posted a TikTok dawning her best Wednsday-esque goth garb and makeup before absolutely killing the dance. The video has already amassed over 1 million likes.

The “Bloody Wednesday” trend has gotten so big that according to Chart Data, “Bloody Mary” had its biggest streaming day of all time on Spotify following the show’s release. Keep in mind the song is over a decade old. While this is certainly no “Stranger Things” effect, a TikTok trend having this kind of impact on an older song’s popularity is undeniably impressive. The fact that it wasn’t even the original song used but fits the choreography perfectly is even more so.
