Apiary Avenger Assaults Police Officers With Swarm of Bees

People will do a number of things to avoid arrest when confronted by police officers. In fact, earlier this year we covered a story where a man used a heavy duty excavator to try and stop police from arresting his son. If a person is willing to go to those lengths to interfere with the cops, to what end might others go to? Thanks to a Massachusetts woman we now know what some people will do to stop an eviction; and the answer is bees. Lots of bees.

On October 12th, police were responding to a house where an eviction was taking place. This particular process had been ongoing for about two years. Though it might not be the case here, some evictions can go back and forth in the legal system, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic and laws that were meant to help prevent evictions from taking place. Either way, the subject of evictions is also a touchy one with citizens in general, including Rorie Susan Woods.

Woods decided to take an unusual approach to stopping the eviction from being served and drove up to the premises (sources do not indicate it was her property). In tow behind her vehicle was a small trailer with a number of wooden dressers stacked on it. These dressers were actually modified to serve as beehives, so opening the dresser drawer would not reveal clothing so much as uh, bees.

When police approached Woods, a struggle began in which Woods allegedly knocked over one of the hives to disperse bees all over. She also came equipped with a beekeeper suit to wear as she began the second part of her plan. The summoner of bees moved one of the makeshift hives over to the front door of the home and set it there, presumably to deter police from getting into the home. Which, to her credit, is probably an effective way of preventing someone from getting anywhere near a home.

As might be expected, Woods was arrested on charges of assault and battery. Though in this case it’s probably more assault and bee-tery. That joke is hilarious and you’re welcome to use it and impress your friends with it. Several people were stung during the course of the incident but no fatalities were reported; human ones at least. As for the bees, well, given the current dwindling population of honey bees, maybe this wasn’t the most ecologically friendly form of protest. Also, presumably, Nicolas Cage would not approve of this.
