Actor/professional butt kicker Michelle Yeoh will be part of a new crime drama for Netflix. In “The Brothers Sun,” Yeoh plays the mother of the main character, played by Justin Chien. The show will be about a gangster in Taipei named Charles Sun, who’s father is killed by an assassin. To hide out and protect his family, Charles goes to Los Angeles, where he meets up with his mother, played by Yeoh. Complicating matters is Charles’ younger brother, who has no idea about his criminal connections, who becomes torn between a destructive past and a fragile future.

“The Brothers Sun” is notable for being an American production which features an all Asian cast. Along with Chien and Yeoh, Sam Song Li plays the younger Sun brother. Other cast members include Highdee Kuan as an assistant district attorney who will be following Charles. Joon Lee plays Charles’ childhood friend and aspiring gangster. The show is also co created by Byron Wu, who is developing the show with Brad Falchuk (“American Horror Story”).

Yeoh’s character is described as an independent and shrewd woman who has done her best to start a new life away with her younger son. Given Yeoh’s long pedigree of playing fierce characters, don’t expect her to stand on the sidelines. Even without any action, Yeoh’s ability to project determination makes her formidable no matter where she is. While the actor is going through a high profile renaissance in recent years, she has always been a high profile star.

    40 Years of Yeoh

What’s truly incredible about Michelle Yeoh has been the breadth of her career. Starting in the 1980s as a model, she would soon become a major Hong Kong action star. In 1997, she co-stared in the James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies.” Just a couple years later in 2000, she would be part of the massive crossover hit film “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.” That would be enough for many actors, but Yeoh has garnered even bigger acclaim in the last decade.

Most recently, “Everything Everywhere All At Once“ has been a massive success in cinemas. This is on top of “Star Trek: Discovery,” and being in hit films like “Crazy Rich Asians.” All of this is to say is that Yeoh can pretty much do whatever she wants. Which makes “The Brothers Sun” something to definitely keep your Netflix subscription for.
