“The Walking Dead” Gets its Own Museum Exhibit in NYC

The Museum of the Moving Image is opening a “The Walking Dead” exhibit in New York City this summer. Titled “Living with The Walking Dead,” the exhibit will showcase original costumes, props, concept art, storyboards, scripts, and a lot of prosthetic makeup. Of course this all comes around just in time for the show’s final 8 episodes.

The Museum of the Moving Image aims to explore several key elements of the show. Including its origin, production, and undeniable cultural impact. The museum says this will be via several screenings and other public events.

“Over 11 seasons and 177 episodes, The Walking Dead has built a vibrant and massive global fan following, becoming one of the most beloved franchises in television,” Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment, AMC Studios for AMC Networks, praised the show. “We’re delighted to work with MoMI on an exhibition and lineup of events to commemorate this beloved series’ historic run, the immensely talented creative team, cast, and crew who brought it to life, and give this incredible fanbase a new and exciting way to experience their favorite show.”

“It’s wonderful to be once again partnering with AMC Networks, this time to present an exhibition devoted to the long-running original series The Walking Dead,” Carl Goodman, MoMI Executive Director says. “It is more than just a television show, it is a cultural phenomenon that is adored by legions of fans, who celebrate the innovative, engaging, and immersive world that its makers have built, and for its diverse cast of characters. The exhibition will bleed outward from our temporary exhibitions gallery and into our theaters, classrooms, and other public spaces.”

These events aim to probe at the serious issues presented in the series. It’s not only about threats from the murderous undead, but the total collapse and rebuilding of a society.

Tickets for “Living with The Walking Dead” go on sale for Museum of the Moving Image members on May 5th, 2022. Then they will open to the general public on May 9th. June 25th, 2022 through January 1st, 2023.
