Person Releases Live Bat in Theater During “The Batman”

A moviegoer who wanted to prank an audience going to see Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman” released a bat into the theater. I don’t know what it says about me, but I’m so relieved that I’m writing about a bat in a theater instead of a shooting. If you remember, in 2012 a shooter fired on an audience in Aurora, Colorado during a showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.” I’m really glad this is to cause a laugh for the audience, instead of intentionally hurting them.

At first, folks thought that a bat may have just flown into the theater by accident. But Annelise Holyoak, a spokesperson from Cinépolis, confirmed it was an intentional release. Luckily. most of the audience seeing “The Batman” on opening night were just fine with a bat in the audience. The theater did try to get it to leave by turning off all the lights, and getting it to follow the light left on in the hallway. I believe they had bats confused with moths though because bats are blind…they can’t see in light, so I don’t know why they would opt to follow it out of the nice dark, safe theater.

“Local animal control was immediately contacted, and they have been overseeing the situation to ensure guest, associate and animal safety,” Holyoak said. “To ensure a prank like this does not again occur, we’ve added additional security and are checking all bags upon guest entry.”

Were the employees forced to catch it? Kinda dangerous.

As you can see, the audience laughed when the theatre employee said that “If you’re uncomfortable being in the dark with a bat please remove yourself now.” To be honest, I think watching “The Batman” with a bat would make it much more IDK… Batmany.

Live animals is a crazy thing to think about. I can’t imagine actually throwing real snakes at people while watching “Snakes on a Plane.” I may have been that person who brought a purse full of rubber snakes to set around peoples seats, but uh…I never said that. [Editor’s note: there was also the famous cat in the theater during “Alien.”]

If you’ve yet to see “The Batman,” check out one of our reviews. If you would like to know whether or not you should spend the extra money to see it in 4DX, we have a review for that experience here.
