Michael B. Jordan cast as John Clark in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Movie Adaptation

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan most recently found itself a new life and home with the Amazon series starring John Krasinski. Now, we have reports stating that actor Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed) has been cast as another Tom Clancy character in an upcoming film series.

As reported by The Verge, Paramount is adapting two of Clancy’s books, Without Remorse and Rainbow Six, into movies. Both novels feature the character John Clark, a former Navy Seal turned CIA field operative, as the main character. With some of Clancy’s work already adapted into movies, such as The Hunt For Red October, this would be the first movie starring John Clark as the titular character. Clark’s character has been brought to life before by William Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger (1994) and Liev Schreiber in The Sum of all Fears (2002), but he has served as a supporting role and not a main character.

Set to write and Produce the films is Akiva Goldsman. Akiva is the writer of A Beautiful Mind, Batman and Robin and he is the co-creator of the upcoming DC Universe show, Titans. Although his career has been prolific at times, it has also been somewhat inconsistent. It will be interesting to see how things develop with the script over time.

The real story is Michael B. Jordan being cast as John Clark, who for the most part has been portrayed as a white male. This is another example of the Hollywood Race swapping a character and they have picked a wonderful actor in my opinion. Michael’s career has taken off over the past two years with his portrayal as Apollo Creeds son in the Creed movies and his stellar performance as the ruthless, yet relatable, villain of Killmonger in Black Panther. It is interesting to note that Killmonger was a Black Ops soldier just like John Clark so Jordan will bring a small bit of experience portraying that type of character.

With starring in two major Tom Clancy films, Michael B. Jordan has a chance to solidify himself as one of Hollywood’s most blockbuster performers in recent years. How do you feel about the casting? Are you a fan of the Tom Clancy universe? Let Nerdbot know in the comments below!
