Wesley Snipes Tweets Support (Again) of Mahershala Ali’s “Blade”

If you haven’t seen Marvel Studios’ newest superhero film “Eternals,” you may want to find something else to read. There will be a spoiler here, included in one of two post credits scenes from Chloé Zhao‘s flick.

    BIG. GIANT. SPOILER. WARNING.

If you’re still here, chances are you’ve seen “Eternals.” You’ve gotten to the post credits scene where Kit Harrington‘s character Dane Whitman is revealed to be Black Knight. And maybe you were wondering who’s voice that is speaking to him off camera.

SPOILER, it’s 2-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, who will be picking up the katana of Marvel Comics’ character Blade.

Announced back during SDCC 2019, Ali closed out the Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel in a big way. Kevin Feige introduced him, and Ali unveiled what project he was starring in with a baseball hat. As you can tell from the crowd reaction at the tail end of this video, everyone was very excited.

Feige spoke to the press after the reveal about how perfect of a choice Ali is for Blade.

We do know more things about the upcoming film now, too. Only took three years.

    Writer, Director announced for “Blade“

In February of 2021, it was announced that Stacy Osei-Kuffour, best known as a story editor and writer on HBO’s “Watchmen,” would be tackling the script for “Blade.” Then in July of 2021, Bassam Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli“) was tapped to direct. That’s…kinda the last confirmed big news we have.

But just recently, commented about debuting his Blade (at least in voice) in “Eternals.”

“It was really cool, getting to do that,” Ali told EMPIRE Magazine. “It was scary. Because, you know, you’re talking before you’re filming it. I’m pretty particular about my choices, like most actors, and so having to make some choices – even with a line, vocally – this early on, it brought up some very real anxieties. And it made the job real. It’s like, ‘Okay, this is happening now’, you know, and that’s exciting.”

And perhaps the most important thing, original Blade Wesley Snipes is supportive!

He will do great 🙏🏿 https://t.co/11PeFroKUY

“Blade” used to have a release date of October 22nd, 2022, but we’re pretty sure that’s going to move. Especially since there hasn’t been a production start date yet. Sources indicate maybe the summer of 2022 for cameras to start rolling.

We’ll let you know what else we hear about this and other news.

Though she be but little, she is fierce.
