Metal fans rejoice, Anthrax is back! The legendary thrash band will release a new song, titled It’s for the Kids, this Friday. This will be the first new music from them since the 2016 album For All Kings.
It’s for the Kids will be the first single off their long-awaited 12th album, Cursum Perficio. The full album is tentatively scheduled for a September 18th release through Megaforce and Nuclear Blast.

“It’s been more than a decade…but we’re back ☠️ 5.15,” Anthrax posted to Facebook on Monday afternoon. Followed some links to pre-save the new track.
The album’s name, Cursum Perficio, is a Latin phrase that roughly translates to “I finish my journey.” Fitting for an album they’ve been working on since 2018. At the time, drummer Charlie Benante said, “This next record is definitely going to be a little more extreme and a little more angry in places, because I just think that’s where I am at this point in the world.”
Guitarist Scott Ian weighed in 2 years later on how they were able to push through during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. “We can do a lot over Zoom and FaceTime, sending music back and forth through email.”
The last major update on the project came in 2024 when Benante and Ian told Metal Hammer that “13 or 14” songs had been prepared.
“There’s a song which has the same kind of epic feel as In The End [from 2011’s Worship Music] and Blood Eagle Wings [from For All Kings],” Benante explains. “It revolves around the journey we’ve been on in the band.
