Hocus Pocus 3 Is in Early Development and is Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy
Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development and will star Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker & Kathy Najimy, reprising their respective roles as the Sanderson sisters. The threequel is finally not just a rumor!
There’s a theatrical distribution component this time, unlike the Disney+ exclusive original sequel, which put the witches to the big screen in 2022. That’s a win!
A third installment was first announced back in 2023 by Sean Bailey. He is the former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. Hocus Pocus 3 was in limbo when Bailey left Disney in 2024. Seems like the film is at a dead stop.
But the cast continued to talk.
In July 2025, Parker was on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and said she was in talks for the film. A few months later in October, Midler made a cameo on the same show and said a script had already been written thanks to the sequel’s massive success.
“They sent a script and a lot of it was brilliant. So I got very excited. And now we’re sort of, like, trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost.”

Deadline has reported that there were also salary negotiations to iron out and those have since been done.
Hocus Pocus 2 smashed Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts by garnering 2.7 billion minutes watched. This occurred over its opening weekend. It also became Disney+’s most-watched original film of its first three days of release. Numbers like that made a third film not be ignored.
Anne Fletcher and Jen D’Angelo, who helmed Hocus Pocus 2, are back on the project too. Disney Live Action EVP Jessica Virtue is in charge of production.
The original Hocus Pocus was released in 1993. It told the story of three 17th century witches. Their names are Winnie, Sarah and Mary. They are resurrected on a Halloween night in Salem, Massachusetts. It slowly became a seasonal institution.
Plot details for the third film haven’t yet been released. As of right now, Hocus Pocus 3 is still in early development. Given the fandom’s attachment to the original film, a theatrical release may also be on the table.
