If ever there was a horror franchise that didn’t need to be a franchise, it’s Blair Witch. That first film in 1999, The Blair Witch Project was lightning in a bottle. The viral marketing campaign took advantage of the burgeoning internet. The found footage style of filming was still novel. The virtually unknown actors made everything seem even more immersive and real. It’s no wonder that nothing the franchise has done has ever come close to capturing this success again. Even then, another attempt has been rumored for years. We found out a couple years back that it’s happening. Now we know a bit more, including who the director is.

    Rumors of the Witch

Back in 2022 we reported that rumors were abound of a new film. As our own Ada Blood even said, “While the quality of the other entries into the “Blair Witch” franchise are debatable, the impact of the first film is not up for discussion.” It’s because of that Hollywood has never given up on getting more money out of this unnecessary franchise. The reboot actually existing was confirmed in 2024. We hadn’t heard anything from it since then. We can confirm there’s a director now. This new entry is being directed by Dylan Clark.

So now that there’s no question another film is coming, we have to ask if it will be any good? That’s up in the air. There’s a positive sign in that Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams are signing on as executive producers. The two actors were both in the original film with Leonard having built up an impressive filmography over the years. Maybe their ties to the original can help bring about a more creative spark to the proceedings.

    Limited Expectations

There are no plot details to share at the moment. The only information that’s been shared is that “the new ‘Blair Witch’ will bring the full mythology and legacy of the franchise to a new generation of storytelling. Which is about as absolutely non-descript as something can possibly get. Does this mean they’ll acknowledge Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows? It actually might be nice to see something in the franchise admit this film happened. It’s something we’ll continue to keep on the look out for and provide more updates as they become available. Until then, maybe just play it safe and stay out of the woods? Also, if you see something that looks like a viral marketing campaign, you know the witch is afoot.
