Jake Schreier will be directing the upcoming, currently untitled, X-Men movie, and has just revealed some big news about the project. Lee Sung Jin, the creator of Beef, and Joanna Calo, showrunner for The Bear, are working on the script.
The trio has previously worked together on both Beef and Thunderbolts*.

“We’re still developing,” Schreier told Collider. “They have come in and are working on a draft right now, which is really exciting to be able to put that group of people together again.”
Schreier goes on to gush about Sung Jin (Sonny) having “the ability to take small interpersonal dynamics and explode them into a much larger canvas.” Which works well for an IP known for addressing major social conflicts in fairly direct ways.
“When you go back and read X-Men [comics], there’s ideology but also interpersonal drama, almost of a soap opera quality. Having writers who understand both how to drive ideology from personal stakes, if we get that right, that’s what will feel most honest to what X-Men can be,” he adds.
But aside from confirming Sonny and Calo as writers, he couldn’t say much else. “We’ll film in a little black box and never leave,” Schreier confirms. “But seriously, the studio has experience with this. We’ve talked about it, but I can’t say anymore.”
This new X-Men movie is expected to be released sometime after Avengers: Secret Wars. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as it develops.
