Season 9 Premiere Date for Ricky & Morty Announced

We knew another season of Rick and Morty was on the horizon, but we just didn’t know when it would happen. The animated, sci-fi comedy remains one of the most popular shows still premiering on cable television. It’s also one of the things keeping Adult Swim and, by proxy, Cartoon Network, alive. For eight seasons so far, the titular duo has crossed worlds and dimensions, resulting in madcap insanity, clones, and so much more than can ever be summed up in a paragraph. Again, we all knew another season was coming; now we get to say when.

In what’s actually a legitimate first for the series, Rick and Morty is actually on a consistent schedule. Last year, the eighth season premiered on May 25th, 2025. Season nine is debuting on May 24th, 2026. We’re just as shocked as you are. There has never been any real consistency in production time for the show. Most of the time, fans have had to wait for over a year between season premieres. To be fair, the COVID years were kind of messy. The Justin Roiland controversies didn’t help either. But look, here we are with a degree of symmetry, finally!

Adult Swim President Comments on Upcoming Season

Adult Swim has been talking up the release, and all while not being afraid to be self-serving about it. Michael Ouweleen, the president of Adult Swim, stated, “I know it’s my job to say that this show just keeps topping itself, but it also has the benefit of being true.” The audience will ultimately be the deciding force on that. Season 9 is already taking a shot at the popular zeitgeist with its description: “Rick and Morty is back, baby! Season Nine is all certified bangers. No AI slop! Just Grade A organic slop, made by real humans with real human traits like back hair and cysts. Please watch, or we’ll have neglected our families for nothing.”

Hopefully, nobody’s family was actually neglected, and hopefully they get those cysts looked at. A ruptured cyst can run the risk of getting infected, and that could lead to delayed production times. Don’t ruin a good thing while you have it!

\Adult Swim dropped a sneak peek of the upcoming season on their official YouTube channel. We’re still awaiting a full-on trailer and some plot hints. We’ll let you know more as the days lead up to the season premiere on May 24th, 2026.
