Disney+ Swings the Axe on “Goosebumps” Series

It looks like spooky season is about to be slightly less spooky this time around. Every year we are privy to seeing shows come and go, and in the age of streaming that seems to happen more than ever. We’ll see shows that garner strong interest in their first season, enough to get a second at least, and then that’s the end of the road. It’s especially frustrating to see this happen when the show actually has some promise, which is sadly the case with “Goosebumps.“

You’d be hard pressed to find a child of the ’80s or ’90s that doesn’t know this book series quite well, or who didn’t at one point own a few of the titles. The horror series by R.L. Stine has been phenomenally successful and has branched off into video games, films, and television shows. Many of those same ’80s and ’90s kids would remember the “Goosebumps” series that ran on Fox Kids in the mid ’90s. Admittedly, it wasn’t always the greatest, but it was always Canadian! And what more could a person ask for than that? Well they could ask for a bit creepier of an interpretation of the books, which is what we got for two seasons on Disney+.

We regret to report, that there will not be a third season. Sources indicate Disney will not be airing another season of the Sony produced program. However, this is not stopping Sony from seeking another avenue for the series. They’re hoping to shop at around to continue the family friendly scares. This version of “Goosebumps” It’s a bit more mature than the ’90s series and takes an interesting approach of combining storylines from several different titles and blending them into one universe. It still maintains elements of the anthology series format, but with an overarching narrative.

At the very least, now isn’t the worst time to try finding a new network or streamer for a horror series. If they can get things worked out, maybe we’ll see “Goosebumps” return for Halloween 2026. Unlike other revivals of various shows, this one actually had a lot to work with to differentiate itself from the original while still maintaining the spirit of the books. With better production values and more mature storytelling, it did a pretty good job of bringing some classic kids horror stories to life. If we hear anything more about the series being picked up elsewhere, will be sure to let you know.
