“Crystal Lake” Casts Callum Vinson as Jason Voorhees

One of the upcoming projects we’ve been looking forward to at Nerdbot is the Peacock series “Crystal Lake.” We do love us some “Friday the 13th” and it’s been far too long since we’ve had the opportunity to dive into the murky waters of Camp Crystal Lake. So, when a series was announced that was set to focus on Pamela Voorhees, the film’s original villain, it seemed like a promising premise. It did leave us wondering how much of a role, if any, her beloved son Jason would have in the story though. While we still don’t know for sure the extent of his involvement, now we can at least confirm that he will be a presence, and we know who will be playing him.

We’ve already reported on some of the casting news for “Crystal Lake” over the last few months. The big announcement came in the form of Linda Cardellini being confirmed as having the role of Pamela Voorhees. As is common knowledge to most movie goers, or at least anyone who’s seen the opening scene of “Scream,“ Ms. Voorhees played the original killer in “Friday the 13th,” seeking vengeance against irresponsible teenage camp counselors who she viewed as responsible for letting her son, Jason drown. Naturally, Jason wasn’t a big part of that first film even though he would subsequently become the antagonist the series became known for.

Given when this series takes place then, it should be no surprise that Jason is still a child. He’ll be played by Callum Vinson who already has some horror cred as he has previously acted in the series “Chucky.“ More recently he was featured in Peacock’s “Long Bright River.” Vinson is listed as a recurring guest star in “Crystal Lake,” indicating that like in the original film, he won’t be a large part of the overall narrative of the series. But you don’t have to have a lot of screentime to be a looming presence in general.

Right now, there is still no confirmed release date for the series, but we’ll keep you posted when the date does come along with the inevitable trailer. Until then, happy camping!
