On June 14th or 15th, the sculptures “Icarus Within” and “Quantum Mechanics: Homme” by Sir Daniel Winn were stolen from a warehouse in Anaheim, California. By June 21st, the police announced that they had recovered the two 8-foot-tall pieces.
No arrests have been made over the theft yet.

“Thanks to tips from the community, the sculptures were found last night at a home in Anaheim,” said a spokesperson for the department. “There has not been an arrest made yet, but they would like to thank the community for their assistance.”
The combined value of these two sculptures is $2.1 million, and they weigh between 2,000 and 4,000 pounds. It’s currently believed that heavy equipment, like forklifts, was used to commit the crime.
“Typically, these sculptures, when we do exhibitions, take about a dozen men and two forklifts to move it and a flatbed or a truck to carry it,” Winn told the LA Times. “This is not an easy task.”

“Due to the nature of the items that were stolen, it looks like somebody knew they were there and went there with a purpose,” explains Sgt. Matt Sutter, APD spokesperson. “This doesn’t happen often here in Anaheim. It’s a relatively quiet area.”
Winn believes that his work was stolen by an unscrupulous collector. An art recovery expert suspects that they were stolen for scrap metal. Even though we are willing to bet there is nowhere near $2.1 million in metal in these works.
“These are my children,” Winn said about his individual works. “I have no physical, organic children. Every artwork I create is my child.”
This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Anaheim Police Department
