FromSoftware Shocks Fans with Switch 2 Exclusive ‘The Duskbloods’

In a stunning reveal during the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, FromSoftware generated major Nintendo switch news by announcing “The Duskbloods” exclusively for the Switch 2 platform. The celebrated developer of Dark Souls and Elden Ring shocked gaming enthusiasts with this unexpected partnership that firmly positions Nintendo’s new console as a serious contender for hardcore gamers.

PvPvE Multiplayer Format Marks Departure from Traditional Soulslike Games

Unlike FromSoftware’s previous titles that primarily focus on single-player experiences with limited co-op options, The Duskbloods introduces a player versus player versus enemies (PvPvE) multiplayer format. This represents a significant shift in design philosophy for the studio known for challenging solo adventures.

The game allows up to 8 players to compete simultaneously against each other and the environment. Players take on the role of the “Bloodsworn,” individuals who have transcended human strength through special blood powers as they battle for “First Blood” during what appears to be humanity’s twilight.

While maintaining the gothic atmosphere reminiscent of Bloodborne, The Duskbloods features:

    • Vampiric characters and blood-based gameplay mechanics
    • Victorian-inspired architecture and environments
    • The studio’s signature challenging combat systems
    • A competitive multiplayer focus previously unseen in their portfolio

Legendary director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creative force behind Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, helms the project. Indeed, Nintendo has scheduled an interview with Miyazaki for April 4th on their official website where more details about the game will be revealed.

2026 Release Window Suggests Long-Term Support for Platform

The Duskbloods’ 2026 release window indicates Nintendo has secured FromSoftware’s commitment well into the Switch 2’s lifecycle. This lengthy development period suggests both an ambitious scope for the project and Nintendo’s confidence in maintaining platform momentum beyond initial launch titles.

Following the announcement, FromSoftware confirmed that Elden Ring will also come to Switch 2, evidently strengthening the relationship between the developer and Nintendo. However, The Duskbloods remains the centerpiece of this partnership as a true exclusive.

The game’s reveal was strategically positioned as one of the final announcements in Nintendo’s Direct presentation, highlighting its importance in the company’s third-party strategy. Footage shown during the reveal appears to have been captured on Switch 2 hardware running at app
