“One Piece” Adds Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, and More for S2

Season 2 of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “ONE PIECE” just got two big characters confirmed. In what is considered one of the most significant casting updates so far, Katey Sagal (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Married with Children“) will portray the character of Dr. Kureha.

Dr. Kureha has been one of the most discussed casting. Originally, we were all for Oscar winner Jaime Lee Curtis (who also really wanted the part), but her schedule would not allow it. Fans on forums are pretty happy with Sagal. Some are even saying she’s the perfect pick, and they’re surprised they didn’t think of it before now.

Kureha, an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates, serves as a respected physician on Drum Island, heading up the esteemed medical collective, Isshi-100.

Meanwhile, Mark Harelik (“Presumed Innocent“) will play Dr. Hiriluk. Which is pretty cool just because of the similarity to his actual last name. Hiriluk, who transformed his life from a notorious thief to a revered doctor on the same island, also occupies a significant place in the community. Both Kureha and Hiriluk serve as inspiration and mentors to Tony Tony Chopper, who joins up with the Straw Hat Pirates on their epic adventure to find the one piece. So far, despite all of the announcements, we’re still waiting on who will either play or voice Tony Tony Chopper.

There were additional casting announcements as well, which you can check out in the graphic below:

Season 2 is currently filming in Cape Town, South Africa.
