Keanu Reeves Writes His First Novel for “BRZRKR” Comic Series

In 2021, Keanu Reeves debuted his 12-issue comic series “BRZRKR,” which he co-wrote with Matt Kindt, with art by Ron Garney. The series follows an immortal warrior known as Berzerker, as he fights his way through the ages. Reeves has since collaborated with China Miéville (“Perdido Street Station”) on his first novel, “The Book of Elsewhere,” which is set in the “BRZRKR” universe.

    The Novel

“The Book of Elsewhere” will follow an ancient warrior who attempts to find meaning in his life. However, their ultimate goal is to try to discover a way to end their own immortality.

“It was important to us approach this in a way that did something new, that did something that was very specifically literary in the sense of using the novel and using the novel form, that nonetheless was unabashedly and joyfully a BRZRKR novel and that honors the source material,” Miéville told The New York Times.

“Show business looks at it like, what else can we do, but I come at it from the artist’s side, like what else can we make,” Reeves said. “From the very beginning I was hoping that other creators and artists could play, as China said, with the toys.”

    More to Come

But this novel isn’t all for new additions to the “BRZRKR” universe. Netflix has also picked up a live-action adaptation starring Reeves, along with an animated spin-off.
