Company of Heroes 3 is an RTS (real-time strategy) game created by Relic Entertainment. Available for Windows courtesy of Sega, COH 3 follows the phenomenal success of Company of Heroes 2.

This upgrade features pulse-pounding entertainment, top-tier audiovisual elements, and thrilling game mechanics. While it’s not on the Top 10 RTS games list yet, COH3 certainly has the potential to make it!

Set during 1939 – 1945, World War II, specifically in the Italian enclaves of North Africa, Company of Heroes 3 is a showstopper of note. Released on February 23, 2023, it’s an award-winning, action-packed multiplayer video game featured on multiple platforms, including MS Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

The game’s initial Steam launch was Thursday the 23rd at 10 AM PT, and it captivated the attention of gamers worldwide. Technically, COH 3 requires a 64-bit processor and Windows 10 OS. It requires an Intel I5 6th—6th-generation AMD processor with four cores @ 3 GHz or the equivalent. In addition, Version 12 DirectX is needed.

From the player side, there’s always plenty of insightful feedback to consider when deciding whether to buy into a third installment of a series. Company of Heroes 3 elicits a mixed response from players, but optimism remains that the game can meet expectations with ongoing improvements. Things like enhanced community engagement, sound design, and upgraded patches can go a long way toward boosting COH 3.

Exploring the arena of real-time strategy (RTS) games reveals foundational titles that shaped modern gaming, notably the inimitable Company of Heroes 2 and its sequel, Company of Heroes 3. These games defined strategic depth and brought historical narratives to life. Among the top RTS games, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition continues to captivate with enhanced gameplay and depth, while StarCraft: Brood War has been seminal in popularizing eSports.

The genre remains a favorite, with classics like Warcraft 3 evolving through mods and re-releases and newer entrants like Iron Marines adapting RTS mechanics to modern platforms with vibrant aesthetics. Each game, from the tactical They Are Billions to the epic STAR WARS™ Empire at War, showcases RTS games’ enduring appeal and innovation, catering to nostalgic players and newcomers seeking complex, real-time challenges.

    A Tough Act to Follow

What is interesting to note is widespread player loyalty to Company of Heroes 2 – the predecessor of the title under review. Let’s quickly delve into the inner workings of COH 2 and understand why so many players prefer this version of the series to the latest release. Company of Heroes 2 features an RTS game created by Relic Entertainment and published by Sega for the MS Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems.

This multi-award-winning franchise was also set in World War II and focused on the Eastern front. It features cutting-edge technology, with the Soviet Red Army as a newly added faction. Players are thrust into a battle-hardened world where brutal campaigns like the Battle of Berlin and Operation Barbarossa are splashed across the screen.

Intolerable weather, brutal enemies, and harsh conditions make for a compelling video game experience in COH 2. Players are introduced to the Theatre of War – single and multiplayer missions with multiple components of the Eastern Front campaign from the USSR and Germany’s perspective. Missions from 1941 and 1942 are available as downloadable content in the game. It is multiplayer action, and this RTS game features several playable factions, notably the British forces, Oberkommando West, US forces, the Soviet Union, and Wehrmacht Ostheer.

Since it is focused on the Eastern front – unlike Company of Heroes 3, which focuses on North Africa through the Italian lens, this game tells the story of flashbacks by a Soviet army lieutenant, Lev Abramovich Isakovich, imprisoned in a Siberian gulag in 1952. This game resonated with audiences worldwide and raised the bar vis-a-vis expectations for Company of Heroes 3. It’s important to understand the background of the latest release regarding COH2. The previous game received overwhelmingly positive feedback despite the typical critiques.

    What to expect from COH3?

Company of Heroes 3 is cutting a swath with players worldwide. The recently added Coral Viper Update brings two brand-new battle groups into play. Community maps and exciting new interactive features are designed to boost engagement among battle-hardened fans. The consolidation of COH 3 features brand-new battle groups, a new campaign company, and value-added cosmetics. Given the nature of the trilogy to date – more to come – COH 3 brings heart-stopping combat alongside strategic planning. Now featuring a Mediterranean theatre of war, Company of Heroes 3 is fast and furious, just as players like it
