“Marvel Zombies” Will NOT be ‘Kid Friendly’

When it comes to anything involving zombies in this day and age, there are certain expectations of horror and gore. At least, if you want whatever zombie show or movie to be considered good. Let’s be real here, current zombie expectations are not suitable for all ages. While “Marvel’s What If…?” zombie episode was watered down, it was still pretty creepy. Perhaps it was creepier than most parents would approve for their children to watch. And when it comes to the “Marvel Zombies” animated show, we don’t have good news for parents.

The highly anticipated “Marvel Zombies” will not be receiving a kid-friendly rating. This will be due to the choice of staying true to the comic line. “In terms of making a Marvel Zombies show right now that is pretty intense that’s for sure a TV-MA show,” Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum, said.

The series was first announced at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) in 2022.

The choice to “honor the comics” was a similar decision made with the newly released “X-Men ’97.” The comics see an alternate universe, where various Marvel heroes become infected zombies. The uninfected heroes are forced to save themselves, and try to save the world. “And again, it’s trying to honor the comics. And what was so great about the comics was it not pulling its punches. That’s certainly what we’re going for on that project also,” Winderbaum said when comparing the two shows.

“Marvel Zombies” will not be the first time the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has dabbled with a stronger rating. Marvel’s “Echo,” which released this past January on Disney+, received a TV-MA rating. We are very curious how the new series will compare to its “What If…?” episode counterpart. The series has already confirmed zombified versions of Captain America, Captain Marvel, Okoye, Hawkeye, and Wanda Maximoff. The confirmed uninfected heroes will be the likes of Yelena Belova, Shang-Chi, Kate Bishop, Kamala Kahn, and others.

“Marvel Zombies” doesn’t have a release date yet. We will update you when we learn more. You can checkout the first two episodes of “X-Men ’97” on Disney+, along with other MCU content.
