We have some very exciting news coming from The CW. The network given a series order for “Sherlock & Daughter,” starring David Thewlis (“The Artful Dodger,” “The Sandman“). The show aims to deliver a unique take on the well-worn and often adapted stories of Sherlock Holmes.

“Sherlock & Daughter” will focus on Holmes (Thewlis) and his struggle with mysteriously being unable to investigate a sinister case. Well, at least not without risking the lives of his closest friends, and who wants to do that? This leads him to meet Amelia (Blu Hunt), an American, whose mother has been mysteriously murdered and she believes that Holmes may be her father. Despite their differences, the two must work together to solve a global conspiracy, her mother’s murder, and find out if Amelia really is his daughter. The cast also includes Dougray Scott (“Batwoman”) as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.

Brendan Foley created the series, and James Duff will act as showrunner. “Sherlock & Daughter” is written by Micah War Dog Wright and Shelly Goldstein. Foley and Duff will executive produce alongside Karine Martin, Chris Philip, Peter Gerwe, Dominic Barlow, Ivan Dunleavy, and Escapade Media.

But Wait, There’s More The CW News!

The news of “Sherlock & Daughter” came during The CW’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s Winter press tour. The network also confirmed it has series orders for new game shows based on Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble.

“The CW continues to expand its original programming lineup with quality scripted and unscripted series, based on IP that everyone knows, that encourage co-viewing across generations of fans,” Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment at The CW Network, said. “Sherlock & Daughter brings Cannes Film Festival Best Actor award winner and SAG, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated David Thewlis to the network as the renowned detective Sherlock Holmes. The entire cast and creative team have done a magnificent job putting a new twist on the classic character. And because we also need things only a Sherlock can solve, we are looking forward to welcoming two great game shows to The CW in “Trivial Pursuit” and “Scrabble,” which will bring prime time game night to the whole family.”

There is currently no release window for “Sherlock & Daughter” just yet. We’ll keep you posted on updates about these projects as they become available.
