“BioShock” Live-Action Writer Gives Update on Movie

Michael Green, writer for the upcoming live-action “BioShock” adaptation, has an update for everyone waiting for this movie. The highly anticipated project from Netflix is being directed by Francis Lawrence (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes“).

Green was not able to share much, but confirmed the project is moving forward, following the WGA strike. “You have to measure your words, or you’ll start to see a laser pointer at my forehead from the Netflix legal,” Green shared while talking about his upcoming project, “Blue Eye Samurai.” “Netflix has been amazing about it. They were excited about it before the strike, they’re excited about it now, post-strike.”

“BioShock” was first launched in 2007, immediately meeting critical acclaim. The game franchise is set in the 1960s of an alternate universe, similar to our own. Players are in the stunning underwater utopia Rapture, where the events of the game unfold. Rapture was built in the 1940s by industrialist, Andre Ryan, who wanted a place for scientists, artists, and entrepreneurs to thrive without government constraints.

“I got called, the ‘How’s it coming along?’ the minute the strike was over. ‘You about ready…?’ Been meeting regularly with Francis Lawrence and his team to refine a draft to go back in,” Green said. “We’re all optimistic. We all love it. It’s a great big sprawling nightmare world we wanna see real. So, here’s hoping. I would love to have an update for you soon.”

The game offered morality choices, with the consequences affecting the narrative as players progressed. The graphics were another factor in the popularity and success of the game. Several sequels spawned, leading to a very successful franchise. Did anyone else have friends, or family who could NOT put this game down when it first came out?

It may still be a while before we get any further news regarding this project. Until then, check out this trailer for “BioShock: The Collection” comparing the remastered graphic to the original.
