Michael Keaton Says “Beetlejuice 2” is ‘the Most F**kin Fun’

We *could* try to spin you a tale of an Oscar-nominated actor singing the praises of a project he’s on. But it would be way better to let Michael Keaton‘s own words do the talkin’. Keaton and other stars of Tim Burton‘s iconic and classic “Beetlejuice” returned for it’s long awaited sequel, “Beetlejuice 2.” Yeah, we know- imaginative title. We were hoping for something like “Revenge of the Sandworms” or something.

Filming was all but completed when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes hit. Burton himself said the film is “99% done,” and only needs about 2 days to finish once the strikes are over.

But the thing we really love was what Keaton had to say about the project.

“Beetlejuice is the most fuckin’ fun you can have working,” Keaton said. “It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie. There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move.”

“It has to be done as close to the way we made it the first time,” Keaton continued. “Making stuff up, making stuff happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something. Fuckin’ great. It’s the most fun I’ve had working on a movie in I can’t tell you how long.”

Winona Rider, Catherine O’Hara, and composer Danny Elfman are also returning for “Beetlejuice 2.”  Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday“), Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux are also on cast.  It currently has a placeholder release date of September 6th, 2024. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
