Kumail Nanjiani Wasn’t Asked to Reprise “Adventure Time” Character

Kumail Nanjiani, who voiced the cosmic wish granter Prismo in “Adventure Time,” will not be reprising the role in “Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.” He claims he was never offered the chance to reprise the role, which he would have loved to do.

In a since-deleted post on X, Nanjiani claims he was never asked to reprise the role. “Yeah that’s not me. I would have loved to have voiced Prismo again. He’s one of my absolute favorite characters I’ve ever had the honor of playing. He is very close to my heart. Unfortunately they never asked me to come back and voice him again. I would have done it for free.”

Adam Muto, showrunner for the new series, denied the actor’s claims. “Hey, we would have loved to have you back. We were told by casting that several offers went out to your reps. We said we could be flexible in scheduling but received a respectful pass. Sorry it didn’t work out.” Nanjiani was seemingly not aware of the offers and has plans to speak with his reps about the miscommunication. He did ask when the offers would have been sent and congratulated Muto on the show’s premier.

This is an interesting turn of events. Nanjiani’s Prismo was iconic during the original series run. It seemed like such a shame that he wasn’t reprising the role. Now this could be a simple mistake that led to the misunderstanding.

“Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake” premiered on August 31st and is streaming exclusively on Max. “Adventure Time” is available to stream on Max and Hulu.
