If there’s one thing you need to know about “Metalocalypse” character Dr. Rockzo, it’s that he’s a rock and roll clown. Also- he does A LOT of cocaine. Why is this important? Because “Metalocalypse“ is b-b-b-back baby, with an all-new film!

Back in 2021, adult swim ordered a series of films to continue the hijinks and adventures of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “The Venture Bros.” and “Metalocalypse.” The former two have already been released, leaving just hard rocking Dethklok to bring their movie (and music) to the masses. “Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar” is set to release for VOD and Blu-ray later this month, but thanks to Dr. Rockzo, we get to see a little taste of what to expect from the film… or maybe just what to expect if an evangelist preacher did a lot of cocaine.

If you’re looking for any plot details well, you’re probably not going to find them. This trailer is just a purely drug infused psychedelic fever dream of balloon crucifixes, St. Peter doing cocaine, and God doing cocaine. Yup, Dr. Rockzo informs us that we’re only on this Earth for a short time but at the end of the line, even God is going to get down and party with the rest of it. Meanwhile a constant ethereal stream of nose candy is flowing up one of the creator’s nostrils. Maybe Dr. Rockzo has found the light, but he’s still the same old rock and roll clown that he ever was when it comes down to it.

Side-note about Dr. Rockzo, there are frequent online references made to him being modeled after original Van Halen frontman, David Lee Roth. And while there’s definitely comparisons to be made around the two, it feels like not enough attention is brought to the fact that his vocal style and mannerisms share a hilarious similarity to Axl Rose. Most noticeably from “Welcome to the Jungle.” It would be fitting that Dr. Rockzo would draw on a number of hard rock and metal pastiches, and it’s all the more reason why we’re glad to see him back.
“Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar” promises to be the final chapter in the saga of Dethklok’s journey. It releases August 22nd, 2023. Check out the trailer below. It *is* age restricted.
