“ALF” Returns Because of Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds is proving to us he’s just a big kid at heart, and we kind of love him for it! In addition to bringing back “Biker Mice From Mars,” Reynolds is bringing back a golden oldie. ALF, the ‘Alien Life Form,’ is coming back, too!

Okay sure, its to promote Maximum Effort’s sponsors in commercial segments, but he’s still BACK!

For those of us that grew up in the 90s, we vaguely remember the fuzzy, well-coifed Melmacian who had a penchant for Hawaiian shirts and liked to eat cats. As it turns out, Reynolds grew up with the fluffy extraterrestrial and wants these ad segments to be a precursor to reviving the series.

    ALF returns Maximum Effort

Maximum Effort worked with the original creator of ALF, Paul Fusco, and Shout! Studios to bring the segments to life. “At Maximum Effort, we love taking risks and blurring the lines between shows and sponsorship because we believe both can be equally entertaining,” Reynolds said in a statement. “Besides my irrational love of ALF growing up, one of the reasons we licensed this show was precisely because Paul, Shout! Studios and our intrepid brand partners wanted to plot with us to bring ALF back to life. Tune in this Caturday!”

Its actually a decently smart move to integrate advertising with a series revival. Promoting the character prior to a series return is a decent way to both promote the show and the sponsors. It’s kind of an inspired move for a channel. A win-win for everyone really.

The segments will air on July 29th, during an “ALF” Marathon aptly named Caturday. Tune in!
