Multiple sources close to HBO’s “The White Lotus” claim season 3 of the hit series will take place in Thailand. The Emmy award-winning anthology series centers on the exploits of various guests and employees at a resort.
The first two seasons were shot at Four Seasons Resorts in Hawaii and Italy, respectively. So the going theory is “The White Lotus” season 3 will be shot at one of their four properties in Thailand. These resorts are located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and the Golden Triangle. This means the new season could take place in the city, country, jungle, or beach. So it would make sense to shot in an area with so many different choices for settings.
Writer/director Mike White has also given some indication the new season will take place in Asia. “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” White said in a clip at the end of the Season 2 finale. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
Production on season 3 hasn’t even begun yet, hence the speculation. Sources say White has been spending time in Thailand, scoping out sites. White also executive produces the show along with David Bernad and Mark Kamine.
“The White Lotus” has already raked in 10 Emmy awards for its first season, including supporting actress for Jennifer Coolidge. Coolidge reprised her role as Tanya McQuoid in Season 2, which nabbed her a Golden Globe and a SAG award.
HBO has declined to comment about the setting. No premiere date is currently set for “The White Lotus” season 3, but we will keep you posted with updates as they develop.
