Rachel Weisz “Dead Ringers” Series Gets Haunting Teaser Trailer

Amazon has released a teaser trailer for their upcoming adaptation of the 1988 thriller, “Dead Ringers.” The original film was directed by the master of body horror, David Cronenberg. It stars Jeremy Irons playing a pair of identical twins who are also genius gynecologists. That is until their preoccupation with drugs and sharing their sexual partners leads them down a road of increasingly more paranoid and violent behavior.

The  “Dead Ringers” mini-series will be a gender-swapped adaptation starring Rachel Weisz as the twins. She is also acting as executive producer on the project since the movie had a lasting impact on her. “I never, ever forgot it,” Weisz said about the first time she saw Cronenberg’s film. “It was just seared into my memory. I liked that it was deeply psychological, deeply twisted, perverse, and thrilling. I think that’s quite fertile territory.”

Her interpretation will still have the twins pushing every boundary of medicine, let alone ethics. Except, this time it is in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront. A topic that is becoming disturbingly timeless.

The  “Dead Ringers” series is written, and executive produced by Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch (“Normal People” TV adaptation). Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) directs the first two episodes and co-directed the last episode of the series. The directing team also includes Karyn Kusama (“Jennifer’s Body”), Karena Evans (“Snowfall”), and Lauren Wolkstein (“Y: The Last Man”).

The ensemble cast also includes Britne Oldford (“The Umbrella Academy”) as Genevieve, Poppy Liu (“Hacks”) as Greta, Michael Chernus (“Severance”) as Tom, Jennifer Ehle (“Saint Maud”) as Rebecca, and Emily Meade (“The Deuce”) as Susan.

“Dead Ringers” is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Annapurna Television. Birch, will also be the series showrunner and executive producer along with Durkin and Weisz. Stacy O’Neil, Sue Naegle will executive produce alongside Ali Krug for Annapurna Television. James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall are executive producing for Morgan Creek.  Erica Kay, Anne Carey, and Polly Stokes will also serve as executive producers.

All six episodes will premiere on April 21st, 2023 exclusively on Prime Video. Check out the teaser trailer below:
