The 5 Best Foldable Phones to buy in Australia (2023)

Foldable phones are the latest installment in smartphone innovation. And by that right, they are far from cheap. Nevertheless, these eye-catching devices are worth investing in as they combine the portability of a regular phone and the generous screen real estate of tablets. They are both cool and gorgeous and come in a more compact form factor compared to ordinary tabs. Let’s not forget that they offer top specs that rival the best high-end flagship. Here are some of the best foldable phones you can buy in 2023.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

Samsung is one of the biggest players in the foldable smartphone market, and their latest iteration of the fold line, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, is a beast of an Android phone. Launched in 2021, this phone has set the bar for foldable devices. It comes in a more durable design, rendering it as resilient as you would hope for the money. It provides S pen support and is rated for IPX8 water resistance. Samsung updated the cover display resolution and refresh rate. For the internal display, you get a 7.6-inch while the cover display is 6.2 inches. Both displays are vividly bright and offer 120Hz refresh rates. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 paired with 12GB of RAM. It still comes with three 12MP rear cameras, a 10MP selfie camera on the external display, and for the first time, a 4MP under-display selfie shooter.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

Samsung unleashed the Galaxy Z Flip 3 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It comes in a clamshell design, and unfortunately, it doesn’t offer significant improvements to its predecessor. Regardless, it is still one of the best clamshell phones you can buy right now. The cover screen display is now 1.9 inches, a welcome addition as the previous phone had a cover display of 1.1 inches only. Therefore, you can view and manage your notifications better. The 6.7-inch dynamic AMOLED 2X, 120Hz display offers bright, clear, and responsive visuals. Like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, you will find a powerful Snapdragon 888 processor under the hood. However, you only get 128GB and 256GB storage options, both paired with 8GB of RAM. You can buy z flip 3 from $639 AUD at Phonebot.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

A successor to the original Fold phone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 fixed its shortcomings and expanded on its features. Samsung went for a frame-filling 6.23-inch AMOLED outer display and a 7.6-inch inner folding screen. Inside, you will find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset, which might not be the latest chip on the block. However, it is still an incredibly capable and powerful chip. The camera configuration is impressive. It comes packed with 12MP rear cameras and a 10MP shooter for selfies. This is pretty much what you get on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Therefore, if you are not too keen on getting foldable that’s water-resistant or offers S-Pen support, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a worthy contender to the Galaxy Fold 3. Plus, you can get it for much cheaper.

    Samsung Galaxy Fold

This was the first truly foldable phone launched back in 2019. It came with quite a lot of caveats; hence it doesn’t exactly represent a pivot in Samsung’s foldable phone strategy. However, if you are in the market for an affordable phone in 2023, the first-generation Samsung Galaxy Fold is an excellent option. Unfolded, the phone supports a 7.3 Super AMOLED screen that is great for watching videos, scrolling, and reading. On the outside, it comes with a 4.6-inch display which some may consider too small to be effective. Samsung didn’t compromise on the camera. The Samsung Galaxy Fold has a rear camera setup, comprising two 12MP lenses and a 16MP ultrawide shooter. For the selfie, you get 10MP and 8MP wide shooters plus an additional 10MP cover camera.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

Released on February 14th, 2020, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip does a lot of things well that make it a great buy in 2023. It sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display that folds down to an incredibly compact clamshell form factor. The 1.1-inch cover display is a bit of a disappointment as you won’t be able to view a lot of information on it while the phone is closed. The good news is that multitasking on the phone is excellent. And for the cameras, you get a dual rear camera set-up made up of two 12MP shooters. The selfie camera is still 10MP.

Yes, foldable phones come at a pretty hefty price tag. But as the foldable market continues to heat up, they should become more affordable with time. Nevertheless, a foldable phone is a perfect device for you if you are looking for more screen real estate but despise the gigantic form factor of regular phablets. Let’s not forget that they look pretty sleek and cool, so they are guaranteed to turn heads.
