Chris Judge on Dave Bautista as Live-Action “God of War” Kratos

When Amazon Prime Video confirmed the long rumor of a live-action “God of War” series, one question immediately leapt to mind. Who would play Kratos? The first (and some would argue ONLY choice) is Chris Judge, who has been voicing the character since 2018’s franchise relaunch from Santa Monica Studio.

He’s got the background- action and adventure through “Stargate SG-1” (and other “Stargate” series) made him a genre staple. He’s got the imposing height, and most importantly, the VOICE.

But another actor has been mentioned recently as a good fit- Dave Bautista. The WWE star-turned serious actor has recently been searching for a more meaty role than Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy.” We can’t blame him- after seeing his acting chops in “Blade Runner: 2049,” we too want to see him in more serious roles. That’s not to say MCU character Drax isn’t well written and performed, because he absolutely is. But we can also understand Bautista’s desire to continue his craft.

But also…Drax is pretty similar to Kratos. So maybe it’s a non-starter anyway.

What does Chris Judge think of the idea, though? We’ll let him answer that.

Don’t get me wrong, I think @DaveBautista is great, but…

Not much is known about the “God of War” Amazon series yet, but we’ve heard it’ll be “faithful to the source material.” But with so many titles in the franchise, that kind of leaves the door open for all kinds of stories. We’re hoping for the more modern stuff though, with maybe some callbacks to Kratos’ bloody past.

“God of War: Ragnarök” continues to garner praise and awards. It’s a hell of a game. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
