Paramount+ is starting off the new year with a teaser for their upcoming series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” a prequel to the 1978 classic, “Grease.” The show will follow four high school outcasts who band together to form the iconic girl gang. It will take place at Rydell High four years before the T-Birds and Pink Ladies reigned supreme. Before Danny and Sandy started their “Summer Lovin,” there was Buddy (Jason Schmidt) and Jane (Marisa Davila).
The teaser is simple, showing the creation of one of the iconic pink jackets sported by The Pink Ladies. The jacket being stitched and embroidered is backed by music from the new show. “Rise of the Pink Ladies” will feature new original music written and executive produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Justin Tranter, and choreography by Jamal Sims (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”). Meaning the musical elements of this show are already well taken care of.
“Pink Ladies” also includes Cheyenne Isabel Wells as Olivia, Ari Notartomaso (“Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin”) as Cynthia, Tricia Fukuhara (“Dante Falls”) as Nancy, Shanel Bailey (“The Equalizer”) as Hazel, Madison Thompson (“Ozark”) as Susan, Johnathan Nieves (“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”) as Richie, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper (“When They See Us”) as Wally, and Jackie Hoffman (“Garden State”) as Assistant Principal McGee.
Production for the show began early last year with the script by Annabel Oakes (“Atypical”), who will serves as showrunner and executive producer. Adam Fishbach of Temple Hill and Marty Bowen of Picturestart will executive produce. Alethea Jones directed the pilot, and two additional episodes.
“Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” is excepted to hit Paramount+ sometime in 2023. We’ll keep you posted on any updates as they come. Check out the teaser trailer below:
