Doug Bradley Stars in New Horror Film “Thorns” [Trailer]

Horror icon Doug Bradley is set to star in a new film, “Thorns.” Written and directed by Michigan’s own Douglas Schulze (“Mimesis”), has been developing the project for two years.

“Thorns” is an apocalyptic horror film about a former priest working for NASA. He is sent to investigate a remote observatory that went silent after receiving a mysterious radio signal from deep space. When the priest arrives he discovers the signal opened up a portal letting a thorned monster on the loose. He must now summon all his lost faith to stop the signal from starting a world ending chain of events.

“The film melds themes of religion and science within the framework of a classic ’80s-era monster movie,” Schulze said. “Thorns is ripe with physical makeup effects and plenty of gore.” An intention that really shines through in the footage that we have seen so far. The overall look and tone of the trailer is already drawing comparisons to some of Bradley’s other work, namely his role as Pinhead in Clive Barker‘s “Hellraiser” franchise.

But (possibly) unlike his horrific alter ego Bradley will play “a mysterious archbishop” in “Thorns.” “I really enjoyed working with him. He’s tremendous in the film,” says Schulze. In addition to Bradley the cast includes Jon Bennett (“Dark Heaven” also directed by Schulze), Cassandra Shomer, Bo Shumacher, and Elly Schulze.

Now that “Thorns” is in post-production the director plans on submitting it to various national and international film festivals. “I’m very pleased with how the film turned out,” said Schulze. “Hoping for a good run in the festivals in 2023, before a limited theatrical and streaming release around Halloween.”
