Amazon has ordered a limited series based on the controversial company FTX. Founded in 2019, FTX quickly became one of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. But in the past few weeks, the company has basically disintegrated with almost $2 billion in customer funds reportedly missing! Federal agencies are still in the process of investigating, which makes this possibly the fastest turnaround time for a series based on a true event.

While the actual plot is still currently under wraps. Sources claim that Amazon will base the series on “insider reporting” by journalists who have covered FTX and its former CEO and co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried. We also know that this will be an eight-episode limited series produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s company, AGBO. David Weil (“Hunters“) will write the pilot and executive produce.

“We are excited to be able to continue our great working relationship with David, Joe, Anthony, and the AGBO team with this fascinating event series,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said. “I can’t think of better partners to bring this multifaceted story to our global Prime Video audience.”

There are rumors the Russos are in talks to direct in addition to executive producing. There have also apparently been discussions with multiple Marvel Studios stars who the Russos previously worked with about playing key roles in the show. But there haven’t been any publicly confirmed casting decisions.

All we know is the Russos seem fired up about FTX. “This is one of the most brazen frauds ever committed,” they said. “It crosses many sectors—celebrity, politics, academia, tech, criminality, sex, drugs, and the future of modern finance,” the brothers said. “At the center of it all sits an extremely mysterious figure with complex and potentially dangerous motivations. We want to understand why.”

Amazon currently has this show beginning production in spring 2023. Stay tuned to Nerdbot for updates on this and other news.
