A surprising amount of classic movies were released on June 27th. To celebrate, here’s a list of the films, and where you can watch them.
Released in 1980:
“Airplane!” is an iconic zany comedy starring Leslie Nielsen, about a man who is afraid to fly, having to land a plane. “Airplane!” is currently streaming on Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu, Apple TV, and Redbox.
“My Bodyguard” is another more family-oriented comedy. When Clifford (Chris Makepeace) moves to a new school, he is constantly bullied. He ends up acquires the services of the school’s most feared kid, Linderman (Adam Baldwin), to act as his bodyguard. “My Bodyguard” is currently streaming on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and YouTube.
Released in 1986:
“Labyrinth“ is a fantasy film directed by Jim Henson. 16 year old Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) gets what she wished for when her baby brother is stolen by the Goblin King Jareth (David Bowie). She only has 13 hours to solve the Labyrinth and save him. “Labyrinth” is currently streaming on Amazon, VuDu, Apple Tv, Google Play, and YouTube
“Running Scared” follows two street-wise Chicago cops have to shake off some rust after returning from a Key West vacation. Just in time to pursue the drug dealer who nearly killed them in the past. “Running Scared” is currently streaming on Cinemax Go, Apple TV, Amazon, and VuDu.
“Ruthless People” is a comedy staring Danny DeVito, Bette Midler, Judge Reinhold, and Bill Pullman. It centers around couple who are cheated by an evil businessman, so they decide to kidnap his wife, not realizing they just did him a favor. “Ruthless People” is currently streaming on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, VuDu, Redbox.
Released in 1990:
In “Days of Thunder,” Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) is a hot-shot stock car driver, who gets his chance to compete at the top level. It also stars Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Cary Elwes, Michael Rooker, Fred Thompson, and John C. Reilly. “Days of Thunder,” directed by the late great Tony Scott, is currently streaming on HBO Max, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, VuDu.
1997 (25th anniversary!)
In “Face/Off,” an FBI agent undergoes facial transplant surgery to assume the identity of the criminal mastermind who murdered his only son, but the criminal wakes up prematurely and seeks revenge. John Travolta and Nicolas Cage star is this classic mix ’em up. “Face/Off” is currently streaming on Pluto TV, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, VuDu, and Apple TV.
2001:
“Baby Boy” is now of legal drinking age! This John Singleton-directed film takes place in South Central Los Angeles. It follows a 20 year only man facing the commitments of real life. “Baby Boy” is currently streaming on Amazon here.
2002:
“28 Days Later” takes place four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK. A handful of survivors struggle to find sanctuary in the chaos. “28 Days Later” is currently streaming on HBO Max, Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and YouTube.
2003:
“Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” is a sequel to the 2000 film adaptation of the popular TV show. 2007:
“Live Free or Die Hard” is the 4th installment of the Bruce Willis-led, action franchise. In this one, John McClane and a young hacker join forces to take down master cyber-terrorist. “Live Free or Die Hard” is currently streaming on Hulu, Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and YouTube.
2008:
“WALL-E” a children’s movie is set in the distant future. A small waste-collecting robot named WALL-E inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind. “WALL-E” is currently streaming on Disney +, Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and YouTube.
“Wanted,” an action film, centers around a frustrated office worker. Who discovers that he is the son of a professional assassin, and that he shares his father’s superhuman killing abilities. Based on a comic of the same name, it stars Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and Morgan Freeman. “Wanted” is currently streaming on Fubo, Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and YouTube.
2014:
“Transformers: Age of Extinction” is the 4th installment of Michael Bay‘s adaptation of the popular “Transformers” cartoon. Humanity has to ally with a bounty hunter in pursuit of Optimus Prime.
