“Squid Game” Hwang Dong-hyuk’s Next Project? “Killing Old People Club”

“Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has announced his next project – tentatively titled “Killing Old People Club.” At Cannes Series Writer’s Club, Hwang said he already has a 25-page treatment in the works.

Apparently, it will be “even more violent than ‘Squid Game.’” Based on the title, we’re hoping for a role for O Yeong-su. Season 2 of the record breaking series is already in the works at Netflix. The first season of “Squid Game” became the streaming platform’s most watched series of all time. It spawned a horrifying abundance of costumes, strange recreation attempts, and way too many impressively screen accurate Red Light, Green Light dolls being reproduced.

Next season is looking like it might premiere in 2024. This gives Hwang time to hopefully keep looking on the deranged “Killing Old People Club.”

Hwang’s other works include “The Fortress,” “Miss Granny,” and “Silenced”. “The Fortress” is a period piece taking place in the 1600s. “Miss Granny” is a comedy-drama. “Silenced” is based on “The Crucible” by Gong Ji-young and stars “Squid Game” alum Gong Yoo. It centers around a group of young deaf students being sexually assaulted and a resulting cover up. The release of the film actually caused an investigation to be reopened into the school where it occurred. A bill was eventually passed removing the statute of limitations for sex crimes against minors and the disabled in South Korea.

Tonally, it sounds like this will be much more like his series work vs his last few films. We’re eagerly awaiting whatever unhinged creativity Hwang is ready to dole out.

Catch “Squid Game” season 1 on Netflix now.
