Taika Waititi Adapting Alejandro Jodorowsky, Moebius’s The “Incal”

This is perhaps some of the most interesting news we’re likely to get this week. Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “What We Do In The Shadows“) has a new film project in the works. He’ll be adapting Alejandro Jodorwosky and Moebius‘s graphic novel, The Incal.

    Talk about some iconic artwork.

One of our favorite things about The Incal is it includes A LOT of the concepts from Jodorowsky’s doomed but incredible “Dune” project that Moebius did the art for. There are aliens and humanoids, fantastical space opera elements, all the things kids go wild for.

While we ourselves do not condone aspects of Jordowowsky’s personal life and choices, we do recognize his tremendous contributions to filmmaking and art.

Maybe this is why the much maligned live-action “Akira” project got pushed back.

“The films and graphic novels of Alejandro Jodorowsky have influenced me and so many others for so long,” said Waititi. “I was stunned to be given the opportunity to bring his iconic characters to life and I am grateful to Alejandro, Fabrice and everyone at HUMANOIDS for trusting me to do so.”

“When Humanoids’ CEO Fabrice Giger introduced me to Taika Waititi’s work, it became obvious to me that he was the one,” said Jodorowsky. “I fully trust Taika’s creativity to give THE INCAL a stunning take, intimate and at the same time of cosmic proportions.”

The announcement of Waititi’s project came in a video featuring one of the iconic symbols from the graphic novel universe.
