No need to worry about coal in your stockings, just Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He’s reteaming with “Jumanji” director Jake Kasdan again for a new holiday film.
Amazon Studios has swooped up the rights to the film. The story comes from Hiram Garcia who just so happens to be President of Production for Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions.
The film will be a family friendly action-adventure comedy. It’s hoping to shoot in 2023 which means expect no earlier than a 2023 release date. It sounds like Amazon is banking hard on this becoming a tentpole project for them.
Kasdan and Johnson’s “Jumanji” forays made over $1.76 billion dollars worldwide. It’s no wonder Amazon was keen to get their hands on a project that reunites the duo. It won’t be the only reunion happening, as Chris Morgan is set to write the script.
Morgan is the writer of “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and 6 other Fast-franchise films. This includes the Johnson / Jason Statham led spin-off, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”.
We are genuinely hoping the plot ends up involving Johnson having to go to space to save Santa Claus. Or having to drive around in a classic car that can fly as Dwanta Claus. Delivering presents and Termana tequila to all.
Scratch all of that, we honestly just hope the movie IS Dwanta Claus. Or Dwanta Claus in space. Add in a cameo from Chris “Ludachristmas” Bridges and we’ll truly believe in the holiday spirit.
All parties involved will remain rather busy until this holiday film comes to fruition. Jake Kasdan’s next project is directing “Bad Teacher 2” (we’re as surprised as you are). Morgan will be penning the script for “The Legend of Conan”. Johnson will next be seen in “Red Notice” on November 5, 2021.
