California is slowly starting to reopen portions of the state following a more successful than anticipated vaccine rollout. One of the large-scale industries impacted by various Covid-19 shutdowns included conventions. One of the biggest in the gaming industry, E3, is coming back, kinda.

Instead of an in-person event for their June 2021 showcase, E3 will be offering a virtual convention.

WELCOME BACK! It’s been hard waiting quietly as we got ready for today, but we are thrilled to officially announce our plans for June 12th-15th!

We’re already hearing rumblings that Nintendo will have a large presence during E3’s virtual presentation. This seems to include another full-scale general Nintendo Direct showcase.

#NintendoDirect Update: Nintendo has been confirmed to be appearing at this year’s E3, from June 12th-15th. This means we may see a new Nintendo Direct in (approximately) 70 days! pic.twitter.com/LXlbl3hmYG

Confirmed companies also include Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, and Warner Bros. Games. It does appear that Sony Interactive will not be part of the lineup, but that could always change between now and June 12th.

Glad to see the game industry coming together again in June for a digital E3. This and other summer events are proof that our industry is strongest when we work together. Looking forward to sharing what we have in store this summer.

Rumors of new releases from the big players abound, including the next Assassin’s Creed theme and more. We are also expecting something big from Sea of Thieves.

You can sign up for updates and news about E3 on their official website here.

E3 2021 virtual event will kick off on June 12th, and run til June 15th. We’ll do our best to keep you updated during the presentations.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
