Disney+ Greenlights Nicolas Cage-Less “National Treasure” TV Show

We can all agree that Nicolas Cage‘s….unique….style of acting is what makes the “National Treasure” franchise what it is, right? So bear with us as we report this bit of tv news from Disney+. Apparently the House of Mouse streaming service has just given the greenlight to a Nic Cage-less “National Treasure” tv series.

What is kind of exciting about this series is that the story will center around 20-year old DREAMer Jess Morales. Early loglines include mentions of ‘exploring the timely issues of identity, community, historical authorship and patriotism.’ Morales’ family history will also apparently play into the series as well.

Mira Nair will be directing the series, which has been ordered for 10 episodes. Original film franchise writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley will be handling the script. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is expected to be involved as well.

We’re certainly curious to see what comes from a “National Treasure” series, that’s for sure. We’ll let you know what we hear about casting, and possible release dates.

Disney+’s “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” premieres on Friday, March 26th.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
