“The Last of Us Part 3” Could Be The “Next Thing” For Naughty Dog

As we edge closer to “The Last of Us Part 2” release, one can only wonder how things will play out. What will become of Joel and Ellie? What kind of consequences will Ellie have to face for her choices? Is this the end of the line for the series? Unless you made the mistake of looking at the story leaks a few weeks ago, these are all questions you are yearning to answer while experiencing it.

In a recent interview with British GQ, Neil Druckmann teased that a third “The Last of Us” title is a possibility. Druckmann serves as director and co-writer of “The Last of Us Part 2.”

“As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can’t help but think about the next thing. So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP.”

    Druckmann to GQ

It’s safe to assume that a third installment of the series would not be seen for quite some time. There was a seven year gap between the release of “The Last of Us” in 2013 and Part 2 this year. Likely, Naughty Dog will take some time to work on some new IPs and brainstorm what they would do with a Part 3. It’s nice to know that another title is a possibility though. Of course, this is just one comment made by Druckmann. By no means should this be taken as definitive proof of a third title.

Druckmann has his hands full these next few months. On top of the game’s release and after-launch content, he is also working on “The Last of Us” HBO series. These days, Druckmann is eating, sleeping and breathing Joel and Ellie’s journey.
