Race tracks in Florida have been closing in Florida due to the coronavirus and it is leaving many dogs needing homes. Though dog racing was outlawed in Florida back in 2018, the races were set to continue until December 2020. With the coronavirus epidemic occurring, it has forced a lot of these tracks to close and many are set to not reopen.
“We need someplace for them to go,” Carolee Ellison of Awesome Greyhound Adoptions said. “We give you bedding, we give you food, supplements, a leash, a collar, their heartworm medication, some toys. All you have to do is to provide the love.”
All the dogs they place out have been tested for things and given their shots. The full list includes:
- Heartworm Test with treatment, if needed
- Tick-Borne Disease Panel with treatment, if needed
- Fecal Testing with treatment, if needed
- Neuter or Spay
- Dental Cleaning including Extractions, if needed
- All Vaccinations including Rabies, Bordetella, DHLPP
- Rabies Tag
- Microchip
They want you to start your relationship with your new pup in the healthiest way possible. These dogs are ready to transition from the track to the couch, and need you to be a friend.
